A Trip to the Quilt Show

Now I know y'all are used to going along on my flea market trips, but what do you say to taking a trip to the quilt show? Sound good? Let's go! This morning my mom and I drove over to Owensboro Kentucky for a their local guild's show. It was only the second time we'd been to one of these shows and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around! While Mom's not as enthusiastic about quilting as I am, she enjoyed it just the same. It was very inspiring to wander around and take in the wonderful quilts that were on display and we uttered many "oohs" and "ahhs" between us. So much time and so much talent went in to making all of the lovely quilts! I wanted to come right home and get started on a project, but my sewing machine is currently throwing a hissy fit.

I snapped a few photos of some of our favorites(and this is a small sampling of that few). This isn't even a fraction of the quilts that were actually in the show and yes, I wanted to touch and take a photo of every single one of them, but didn't want to be known as "That Weird Quilt Stalker Girl Who Got Kicked Out of the Quilt Show for Fondling and Photographing All the Quilts".

First up, some Christmas quilts...there were quite a few, these being mom & my favorites. I thought these wonky Christmas trees were very cool. Mom loved the snowmen quilts.

The photo does not do this undersea themed quilt justice. It was gorgeous and I am envious of the quilt artist who created it! I'd love to be able to do something like this someday!
I'm a sucker for cats and for children's books. This little quilt reminds me of Lois Elherts' works.... I think it might have even been named Feathers for Lunch. Sweet!
There were many quilts in the show that incorporated embroidery or cross stitch. I thought this was a particularly lovely example of embroidery. I love how vintage-y it is.
The abstract flower baskets was another of my favorites.
Love Love Love this one! I have no idea what the pattern is called, but I'd never make it anyway. Too many tiny pieces for me!
How can you not love Sunbonnet Sue? The one on the right is an original Sunbonnet Sue quilt. On the left is her reproduction(made by the owner of the original).

I just thought the way these two were displayed was silly...and I loves me some silly.

I'm currently in a wonky quilting bee, so these wonky stars appealed to me immediately.
If I could have taken home a quilt from the show, it would have been this one.
And the showstopper? This Dear Jane Quilt. Folks, it was absolutely amazing. I've read about these, I've seen photos of them, but this is the first one I've ever seen in person. The lady who made this quilt exactly reproduced Jane's 1800's quilt. Exactly...down to the hand quilting designs. She used a magnifying glass to discern the exact stitching in the photo of Jane's original quilt. It took her ten years to complete this quilt. And it was incredible.
Alrighty, there you go!  A small but hopefully enjoyable look at some wonderful quilts from here in my little corner of the Bluegrass State. I hope you enjoyed it!

How fun, Kellie! Thanks for posting! They are all so beautiful, and intimidatingly scary. I admire all you quilters out there!

I'm so delusional I actually bought the Dear Jane software. As if. Those wonky Christmas trees are more my speed. Love all these quilts, thanks for sharing the photos!
